The IPO Porto selected PROLOGICA to develop an Integrated Repository of Knowledge (RIC) to integrate and record all the oncological information of the institutions of the North of Portugal in a single repository for research, exploration, analysis and information sharing.
The collection of cancer information was very manual and error prone. Additionally, it was verified:
- Limitation on the number of variables that could be registered;
- Inexistence of integrations with the local information system of the various institutions;
- Inexistence of integrations with national applications of the Ministry of Health;
- The absence of a rules engine that would allow, in a simple and agile way, the validation of the information residing on the platform;
- Limitation of exploitation and visualization of data.
As such, within the scope of the ODISSEIA project, a more efficient and reliable system was developed that encompassed all cases of oncological disease and its follow-up throughout the life.
Through the advanced analysis on this repository, it was also possible to promote clinical research to a new level and to enable more informed decision-making in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases.
RESULTS
- Automation of oncological information collection;
- Significant increase in the number of possible variables to register (about 700);
- Possibility of adding new variables to the system;
- Improvement of data quality through the implementation of rules for this purpose;
- Integrations with the local systems of several national institutions and applications of the Ministry of Health;
- Unlimited capacity for exploration and visualization of cancer data.
